Sunrise and bruises

posted Thursday, 2 December 2004
The day got off to a wonderful start this morning. For once I didn't mind going out into the cold so early. The sky was filled with patches of red and the sun when it was striking the trees in the distance made them look almost as if they were on fire. Very nice and in spite of being in a hurry I took a moment to admire it.

Work was very busy. Typically it's usually very quiet first thing on the issue desk. Normally there are two of us and we would be sitting telling each other how quiet it was but because of staff sickness I was on my own for a fair part of the hour and it never stopped, queues everywhere and bells ringing. The bruises came later. I had a bit of a clumsy morning although I refuse to take responsibility for one of them. First I banged my elbow - my good one luckily - on a shelf as I passed it. I admit clumsiness for that. Then later the trolley I was pushing got it into its head to turn instead of going in a straight line and I jambed the edge of my hand between the handle of that one and the one it headed straight for. I've lost count of the complaints we've all made about the trolleys. But like most things while the ones responsible for the equipment don't have to use it complaints go unanswered.

That's my whine for the day over now. Hope everyone else's passed without incident!

I think that most stores could hire a full-time shopping cart repairman and keep him busy!

Our trolleys may hold books instead of shopping, Pimme, but they're just as bad.

Thanks, Mary Lou. I always thought working in a library would be a nice, sedentary job. Was I wrong!
