Languid days

posted Thursday, 7 August 2003
Another languid day. Lovely word that - languid. Somehow it seems to express exactly what it means. It's the kind of word that's impossible to say quickly. You almost have to draw it out. Anyway, I digress. It is a languid day or at least it was this morning. You might be forgiven for thinking that the good old British Summer had decided it had been absent too long and come back. After the glorious sunshine of yesterday it was grey and misty and damp. But thankfully the sun showed through again, although I'm not sure I'm that thankful. Now it's too hot again. Never satisfied, some people!

At least now I'm finally prepared for it. I gave up looking for my sunglasses which wait in their very safe place until I accidently come across them and I went out and bought a pair. Actually the second pair. I bought some yesterday but they did strange things to my eyes which made it difficult to walk as the ground looked decidedly concave. They were fashionable wraparounds which made me look quite sinister in a strang eway. I think it was the very dark lenses. But today I decided to forgo fashion and go for ones that didn't make my eyes go peculiar.

There's been very little activity in the library today and for once I'm almost glad of it. It's far too uncomfortable to rush around. If only you could say the same for the noise and disruption of the recabling and recarpeting.

Languid: Definitely a great word.

I could use a lot more languid days...
