Fat ladies and the quayside

posted Monday, 20 August 2007
The first question we asked this morning was is the weather good enough to do anything?  Things looked good, it was cool but there was a blue sky so we decided the quayside it was.  I went to check the times of the buses and as I did so the clouds came over and the cool but bright day turned dull and chilly.  But you can't let the weather stop you so off we went.  The first stop we made was to the Sage, a building we'd meant to look round but never actually got to.  It was very impressive inside and the views from the windows and the terrace weren't bad.  Then it was over to the Baltic to see the Beryl Cook exhibition.  We all love her paintings and found them incredibly funny.  Unlike most of the people who were looking round with us as we suddenly realised we were the only people laughing, we saw one or two smiles but I think laughter is acceptable in a gallery.  After that we took a look round the rest first stopping off in the viewing gallery in time to see the Millennium Bridge being lowered.  There were great views from there.  As for the rest of the exhibits the less said the better!  A short walk then some lunch, lamb burger and chocolate brownie, very nice and very fattening so a little walk followed.  It got very cold after that with quite a breeze so we called it a day and headed home.  Chilly but it was worth it!

Beryl Cook's work is funny and she has amazing talent for capturing life just like it is! I see you're enjoying your holiday.

I'm glad we weren't the only ones who would have found the exhibition funny, Tine, Sheila and Brenda! And I am enjoying my holiday :)

Thank you for the award, Penny. I shall get my thinking cap on and pass it on to others.
